What is car dechroming?
Car dechroming, also known as a chrome delete, covers selected chrome or silver trim with automotive vinyl. It gives the car a cleaner, more coordinated look. Gloss black is a popular choice for a factory-style finish, while satin black gives the trim a softer appearance.
At Wrap Your Car Ltd, we carry out dechroming at our Kidderminster workshop. You can start with the window surrounds or combine them with other suitable trim pieces to create a consistent look across the car.
A cleaner exterior
Replace bright chrome accents with a finish that complements your paintwork, wheels and existing black trim.
Finish matched to your car
We can help you choose gloss or satin black based on the paintwork and the finish of the surrounding trim.
Careful preparation and application
We clean and prepare the trim before applying the vinyl, then check the edges and joins for a tidy finish.

Car dechroming FAQs
What is the difference between dechroming and a chrome delete?
They’re two names for the same styling service. We apply automotive vinyl over suitable chrome or silver trim to change its appearance.
Can I dechrome just the window surrounds?
Yes. You can book window surrounds on their own or ask us to quote for other parts, such as roof rails and grille trim, at the same time.
Should I choose gloss black or satin black?
Gloss black pairs well with shiny black window pillars and factory gloss trim. Satin black has a softer sheen and can suit cars with more muted exterior details. We can help you compare finishes before booking.
Can every chrome part be wrapped?
Suitability depends on the shape, surface and condition of the trim. Intricate badges, textured plastic and some grille sections can be unsuitable for vinyl. Send us photos and we’ll let you know which parts we can wrap.
How long does dechroming take?
The fitting time depends on the number and complexity of the parts. We’ll confirm how long we expect to need the car when we quote for the work.
Can dechroming vinyl be removed?
Vinyl can usually be removed professionally. The condition of the original trim, any previous repairs and how long the film has been fitted can affect the result.
How do I look after wrapped trim?
Wash it gently with a soft cloth and avoid directing a pressure washer at the vinyl edges. We’ll explain how to care for the finish when you collect your car.
Where do you fit chrome deletes?
We carry out dechroming at our workshop in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Contact us with photos of your car and the trim you’d like wrapped to get a quote and arrange a booking.
